Hughes Memorial Weekly Update -Tuesday, July 2

Memory Verse

"Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?  He said, "The one who showed him mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
 -Luke 10:36-37

Thought For the Week
Everyone we encounter is a neighbor to whom we should show love.

Weekly prayer for the Homeless

PSALM 137:1-6
Beside the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept as we thought of Jerusalem.  We put away our harps, hanging them on the branches of poplar trees. Our captors demanded a song from us.  Our tormentors insisted on a joyful hymn: "Sing us of those songs of Jerusalem!" But how can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a pagan land?

PRAYER: Lord, show mercy to all of your children who are far from their native homes.  Help them, Lord, in their afflictions and give them relief from their tormentors.  Encourage those in whose land they dwell, to reach out to these strangers with love and support, so that they might find a new and welcoming home, where they can be at peace. Out Lord Jesus Christ was stranger, and He commanded us to care for the strangers in our midst.  We pray Lord for you to soften the hearts of those who would torment the oppressed who come to us for safety.  Let these people not think that they have arrived in a pagan land, but in one inhabited by followers of Christ who extend Christ's mercy to all who are in need,  Amen.  Sy Garte, Lay Leader, Rockville UMC
